Ken Roebuck of Cardenwood Kennels, Copake, NY
with Bracken and Bramble

I aquired my first Springer when I was 10 years old (1980). She came from well know professional gun dog trainer and author, Ken Roebuck. I can still remember driving with my family up to his
Cardenwood Kennels as if it were yesterday.

We chose a liver and white girl and we named her Bracken's Mag of Farley, "aka" Maggie.

Maggie at about 3 years old and at about 10 years old

She was out of English import parents,

Cardenwood Bracken and Flintmountain Daisy

"Maggie" quickly became my best friend.

Below are some hunting shots

Maggie LOVED water!
She would try anything and
everything to get a chance to go swimming!

Sadly we lost her unexpectedly in the summer of 1991.
In this photo we were taking our last walk with friends in the Watchung Reservation.

In October of 1991 my parents decided they needed to have another Springer! So back up to Cardenwood Kennels. They chose another liver and white girl, Cardenwood Casey. She too is out of English import parents. Her sire is Jason of Flintmountain and her dam is Blackthorn Jestor. Both Maggie and Casey proved to be valuable hunting dogs as well as loyal family pets.

Cardenwood Casey

When Mr. Roebuck decided to retire from profesional gun dog training and move back to England, he made a phone call to my father to see if our family would be interested in any of his older retired dogs. We could not resist! So in 1994 Casey's mother, English Import Blackthorn Jestor and English Import Starblitz Spice joined my household! "Tess" and "Spice" adjusted quickly to becoming "house dogs". Spice lived to the ripe old age of 15 & 1/2, and Tess lived to the ripe old age of 15.

Spice at about 13 years old and Tess at about 9 years old

The temperments, hunting ability, work ethics, health and longevity in the lines (Flintmountain,Gwibernant,Saighton,Rytex,Cardenwood) of these dogs has won me over.

Spice at about 14 years old! Still retreiving!

Tess LOVED to stare down my cats! She would actually do this 24 hours a day if I let her!
